Heidecker & Wood, is the songwriting and recording duo Tim Heidecker (co-creator of “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”) and Davin Wood (composer on “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”) Their first release, Starting From Nowhere, consists of twelve songs written and recorded at Heidecker and Wood’s home studios over the course of two years, often with months passing between sessions. The recordings evoke the sounds of ‘70s soft rock (Eagles, Billy Joel, Doobie Brothers), singer-songwriters (Jackson Browne, Seals and Croft), and ace studio rock groups (Steely Dan, Queen).

Comments

This is exactly the sort of album that should NOT be accessible for free. Little Record Company, the label is not a profit-fixated corporation. And the artists, Davin Wood and Tim Heidecker, are not overpaid, one-dimensional Hollywood assholes merely trying to get bigger and fatter.

Piracy is a way to check already rich companies/individuals who abuse their legal privilege as rights holders by overcharging consumers for often mediocre products. Piracy is a way to combat the rent or monopoly profits that the law allows rights holders to extract. And for really shitty media, it denies those companies rewards for shitting on culture with their terrible media. Where all that is the case internet piracy is a social good.

With this album things are different. (1) the product is uncommonly good. (2) profits from sales don't go to a middle man who does nothing more than hold a copyright -- profits go directly to the artist and the label for the hours and effort (the labor) invested. It permits them to do this in the future.

Nathan81706 or other seeders: since this album should not be pirated, please take it down.

To everyone else: if you like the album consider purchasing it here: http://littlerecordcompany.com/store.html
I don't believe it is immoral to download this album even if it is by a small record label, I downloaded it to listen to it then I bought it after I heard that it was a good album. Is it wrong that all the tracks are up on youtube too? Most people who download illegally usually buy the stuff that they like also, there is nothing wrong about sampling music before you buy it and people who download and don't buy it most likely would not have bought it anyways due to financial issues that might turn around when the next album by them comes out and then they most likely would buy it.
I agree that a download isn't a deprivation where the person downloading would never have purchased the album in the first place. But that’s not everyone. It seems very likely that people have downloaded this instead of buying it. That amounts to an unjustified deprivation.

Also, the whole thing of something isn’t a sample of that thing. A test drive doesn't last for 6 years. Go to Amazon if for a sample.

Youtube is a bad parallel. First, the artist can ask an administrator at Youtube to remove the content. Second, videos of songs on Youtube and mp3s of an album are different products. People don’t listen to music on Youtube the way they listen to albums.

Uploading and seeding is not immoral, it’s just bad form on your part.
The thing is that most people who torrent with no interest in buying the album would not buy the album in the first place so depriving them of the music would make it worse for the artist in the long run, such as them not making it out to see a live show or not buying merchandise when they have the money. Many bands have found a profitable medium between piracy and profit that work for them and usually the band gains loyal followers after they get to listen to the whole album before buying, i will agree that there are a lot of people who just torrent to add it to there "collection" but those people will find it anyway in one form or another. Basically what I am saying is that the band and the label will get money if people enjoy the music.
